SPOTIFY

Why change the mood?

Problem: 40% of all music listening in the US happens in the car. There are 270 million cars in the US, and in those cars millions of people commute 35 minutes each way on average. In total, Americans spend 70 billion hours behind the wheel each year! Yet, most people don’t think about using Spotify in the car because they’re stuck in the habit of listening to the radio.

Insight: Music when played in the right places and at the right time, can convey a powerful message, can completely change a mood, uplift someone’s spirit, and provide the motivation needed to take control of the day.

MOODIFY

Killing two bad moods, with one good app.

Execution: OOH

Spotify will ask its users to select which songs best fit the moods of different sites along certain highways and roads across the country. The songs most picked will be featured on digital billboards, with a line from the song, alongside the number of people who voted the song be chosen for that specific place.

Product Design

Spotify will partner up with Apple Maps and Google Maps to develop a smart and mood boosting way to navigate and listen to music while in your car.

Data will be collected daily by means of a quick check-in; allowing Spotify’s algorithm to best determine your mood.

“How you are feeling today?” “Headed to work? School? Running errands? What do you want this day to look like?

These are just some of the types of questions that will be asked.

In connection with the responses, Spotify will be able to introduce songs, give updates for the day ahead like the weather, and if you feel in need of it, some inspirational quotes.

The songs queued will be set with key landmarks in mind, to make you feel moodified.
