The Ask:

The Microsoft Multicultural team was tapped to help come up with the copy for in-theater assets at special screenings of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Screenings, targeted at Black and Brown youth nationwide were geared at generating interest in STEM careers and coding programs, I.e., Microsoft’s MakeCode program.

My role:

For this project, I was asked to take part in the script writing process with talented copywriter, Alise Crittendon. They thought we would be perfect at speaking to this community in a way that felt natural, inspiring and true! It served as a great opportunity to tap into my personal writing skills and work collaboratively.

Who we worked with:

At the Newark screening which I attended, VP Creative Director and AI expert, Alexia Adana, showcased how young people can tap into the power of AI and Stable Diffusion to create world’s that you’d think only existed in your imagination.

We also worked with other Black creators across the tech field and Black Panther Wakanda Forever’s very own Letitia Wright!

Execution: Film

Alise and I would come up with the script found in the following film. The script was written with the intention to empower young Black boys and girls, and excite them about the world of science, engineering and STEM fields. It was also used as a moment to highlight Microsoft’s free coding platform MakeCode.

This film would go on to live on Microsoft’s Instagram page, grossing the most likes out of any post on their feed to date.

Work like this, is what I am most proud of, especially when it is able to reach millions of people on the platforms where they live most.

Even if only one kid was interested in joining a STEM program or learning to code after seeing this video, then it was more than worth it!
